Hire a Professional Carpet Cleaner or Rental?

Carpet Cleaning

Should you rent a carpet cleaner or hire a professional

carpet cleaner rentalWe get asked a lot by homeowners if they should rent, buy or hire a professional carpet cleaner to take care of their carpets on a yearly basis. Well we are a professional carpet cleaning company so my first response is to hire a professional but we also own a rental company where we rent out professional grade portable carpet cleaning machines and green carpet cleaning chemicals.

We do on occasion use these portable units when our more powerful truck-mount carpet cleaning machines don’t reach the areas we are trying to clean, they work great but require more patience as they are much less powerful and extracting the water from your carpet takes much longer then normal. Time to Call in the Chimney Sweep

Professional Chimney Cleaning – Job for a professional or do it yourself?

Chimney SweepChimney cleaning is the job for a professional, maybe you have seen the movies “Mary Poppins” or “The Chimney Sweep and the Miller” and thought of romantic or the comedic side of chimney sweeping but this is a very series business that prevents house fires.

You can take care of the firebox quite easily using a wire brush and a shop vac but the job gets much more difficult when you have to start cleaning the chimney its self. You can purchase do it yourself brush kits from local Edmonton hardware stores that would have you climbing onto your roof and brushing the dust and creosote from the chimney walls but beware this is a very messy job and you must be prepared before starting. Make sure that you tarp off your fireplace so that all the dust created doesn’t venture into your home.

No Heat – How to re-light your furnace pilot light

How To - HVAC

No Heat – The good news is, it"s usually a pilot light problem on old furnaces and you can fix that.

Did you wake up this morning and your house was extremely cold? You go to turn up the heat at the thermostat but the furnace isn"t responding.

No heat calls to furnace service companies are all too common in Edmonton, one of the most common reasons is a pilot light that is not working. If you have a natural gas burning furnace the burner would be ignited by either a standing pilot flame which is most often found in older furnaces or an electronic ignition which is found in modern furnaces. If you have an older furnace and it"s a standing pilot you"ll see that the flame is lit all the time, if you have a newer furnace then you probably have electronic ignition and that flame is only lit when your furnace is calling for heat.

Fall Home Maintenance Checklist Edmonton – Part 3 Yard

Home Maintenance

Fall home maintenance checklist edmontonWelcome back to part three of the “Fall Home Maintenance Checklist”. In this section we deal with the yard, garden, porches and decks of your when preparing for the winter months ahead.

A clean, organized garage is a great start for your Fall Home Maintenance Checklist

First things first, clean out that garage. Once you have your garage cleaned and organized put the summer garden tools away. Prepare all your yard equipment for winter storage. Make sure that you drain all the fuel from gas operated equipment such as the lawn mower and chain saw.

Clean the yard so that it is free of all fallen leaves, if you have areas where the grass is patchy be sure to re-seed and now is a great time to plant any spring flowering bulbs. Cover all plants with netting and chicken wire to prevent deer from damaging them. This is also a good time to fertilize your lawn with a high phosphorous mix to ensure that you have the healthiest, greenest grass on the block when spring arrives.

Fall Home Maintenance Checklist Edmonton – Part 2 Exterior

Home Maintenance

Fall home maintenance checklist edmontonWelcome back to part two of the “Fall Home Maintenance Checklist”. In this section we deal with the exterior of your home including paint, foundation, siding, the roof and your driveway and many more things to consider when preparing for the winter months ahead.

Fall Home Maintenance Checklist Edmonton – Part 2 Exterior

Let’s start with your driveway: Inspect the driveway for cracks. Clean and repair any damage with a specially designed driveway filler, once fixed be sure to coat with a driveway sealer. This will prevent moisture from entering and freezing causing the crack to be larger and more difficult to deal with in the future.

A great way to improve your energy efficiency, prevent leaks and avoid future costly bills is to inspect your exterior walls for any cracks. Caulk around the spaces where the foundation meets the siding of the home, where any pipes or wires are entering the house and around door frames and windows to prevent heat loss. This is one of the least expensive but most beneficial maintenance jobs the home owner can perform. Openings in structures allow water to seep in where it can freeze and cause cracks and allow molds to grow. The harsh winters of Edmonton can cause water and ice damage, a though check of the homes foundation combined with some inexpensive maintenance work can save large repair jobs in the future.

Duct & dryer vent cleaning

The technicians called as per request prior to arrival (so we could take care of our dogs). They arrived on time, asked the best location to park the truck and gave a great first impression. Their professional approach to their task was maintained throughout. Once complete they then did a second check to be sure they had not left any mess and that all the vents were back in place. Payment was a breeze and the 5% off coupon was awesome. HomePros WILL be getting my business again!

Carpet Cleaning

I had Home Pros come in to remove a juice stain that has been on my carpet for the last two months. Ken was great, he explained the process and proceeded to remove the stain and clean the rest of the carpet in the living room. The stain was fully removed thankfully because I would have lost my damage deposit otherwise
