Should you rent a carpet cleaner or hire a professional
We get asked a lot by homeowners if they should rent, buy or hire a professional carpet cleaner to take care of their carpets on a yearly basis. Well we are a professional carpet cleaning company so my first response is to hire a professional but we also own a rental company where we rent out professional grade portable carpet cleaning machines and green carpet cleaning chemicals.
We do on occasion use these portable units when our more powerful truck-mount carpet cleaning machines don’t reach the areas we are trying to clean, they work great but require more patience as they are much less powerful and extracting the water from your carpet takes much longer then normal.
Carpet Cleaner Rentals
Carpet cleaning rentals are cheaper then hiring a professional but don’t forget that you still have to purchase the chemicals and depending on the type of stains and how heavily the traffic areas are soiled, this can cost you an additional 30 – 40 dollars on top of the rental machine. We also suggest that you rent a blower at the same time to help speed your dry time so that you don’t create a situation that allows mold and mildew to start growing.
Take more time to extract using rental carpet cleaner
One of the most common mistakes that a homeowner makes when trying to clean their own carpets is leaving them to wet. This promotes mold and mildew growth which is not only harmful to your health but also creates bad smells throughout the home.
Rental Vs. Professional Carpet Cleaner / Both
So I guess my answer would be both when asked to use a professional carpet cleaner or rent a portable carpet cleaner. I think if a home owner has the time to devote to cleaning the carpets and making sure that they are good and dry when finished then they can save about 30% of what it would have cost to have a professional carpet cleaner come in and do the job.
If your carpets are very dirty or have stains that have been in the carpet for more than 24 hours I would call in the professional that has the right equipment and chemicals that can get the results that you are looking for. If you are just looking to freshen up your carpets and they are generally clean already then the rental is a good option also.
Remember to follow the basics with carpet cleaning care, vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. Remove all stains as soon as possible using our stain-pro application to help you find the best course of action for most common carpet stains.
Good luck, I hope that this article helps you decide when choosing a professional carpet cleaner or using a rental machine.
